How to repair credit

If you need to know how to repair credit, and especially how to repair bad credit, then don't despair. Credit repair is something you can manage quite easily yourself. The principles of repairing credit are the same, wherever you live. Legislation may differ by country but the steps needed to repair credit and improve your credit score are broadly the same.

Understand Credit Reporting Basics

Firstly, you need to understand what a credit report is, how your credit score is calculated and the role of the credit bureaus. All of this credit reporting information is available within this website. It's not complicated.

Get Organized for Credit Repair

Next you need to get organized. Put all documentation about your various financial arrangements in one place, so you can refer to it quickly and easily. This will include bank, store and credit card statements, copies of all loan agreements, mortgage accounts and your credit reports. You need up to date information about all your borrowings so make sure you have the latest balance information covering all that you owe. Keep all this information in separate folders for each account, for easy reference.

If you are married, or at least have some joint accounts with a partner, you will need separate folders for credit reports for each of you, from the three main credit bureaus. Don't worry at this stage if you have yet to apply for credit reports, just ensure that you have a folder in which to file them when the time comes.

If you have received correspondence from any loan company you are in arrears with, a collection agency, lawyers or court officials, keep it in the same file as the debt it refers to. And get used to keeping a record of all telephone conversations you have, related to your debts - the date of the call, the name of the person you spoke with and notes about what you discussed. And keep a copy of all letters you send out, if you are not doing this already.

If you are told a date by which something needs to be done, or will be done, either by letter or telephone, keep track of it so you can go back to that person if you hear nothing by the date mentioned.

How to repair credit or bad credit is not rocket science, but it pays to be organized.
